The Juxbox: Threadful Photography

Okay, let's picture boundaries in photography. Yeah, in your head. Go on. They're two dimensional, they preserve moments and yet transient, they're such a square. Alright, now threw that out the window. Yes. Out. The window.
And ladies and gentlemen, let us give a big round-up applause to Craigie Horsfield and Maurizio Enzeri, whose works crossed boundaries that created something  new and yet have  roots in a traditional domestic craft. Tapestry for Horsfield, embroidery for Enzeri.
I've chanced to Horsfield's works last year on me and my sister's last year  Euro trip. Before we head back to Eindhoven after spending the weekend at Zeeland, Oom Wim and Tante Thera decided to take us to a brief stop in Antwerp and go to MuHKA. ANd then BAM!!! Big ass carpets on the wall that just beyond anything I ever seen. Now THIS is MODERN ART bitches! I felt lucky, and thought that this could be very much our Bayeux Tapestry (dubbed as the first comic book, basically it is a loooooong embroidered cloth depicting events leading up to the Battle of Hastings, I know this from reading up another  comic; Bryan Talbot's The Adventures of Luther Arkwright).

My photos didn't do it justice, really. Because the real works are textured and tactile and the images just sort of jump in your face. It was brilliant.
You  can read about the exhibition here.

Okay, now, Maurezio Enzeri. His works is something I stumbled on the Internet, natch This guy embroidered  photos straight-up  and it is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Furthermore, this is something that we could simulate. Somehow. Work those fingers, boys and girls!!!

Fuuvi Groovy!

It's a camera in the size of an flashdisk USB while playin' up toy camera retro-esque look!  Too cute too awesome!! I want, I want, I want!!!
These babies  need a Micro-SD card (up to16GB, not included)  to fire its 2 MP camera. Photos are 1280×1024. The lens is F2.8 f=3.2mm with an ISO 100. Roll over here for a complete spec rundown and photo results.
Should be interesting though, since unlike most digital camera you cannot immediately see the results, and since it is just a teeny weeny thingie, the angles and view points are boundless!

A little warning though, a visit to Fuuvi's website might do your sweet tooth harm. I mean  they actually made  chocolate, biscuit, and juice cameras!!

Photo Me Painterly: Olivier Valsecchi

If there's a must, it is seeing Olivier Valsecchi's "Dust" series. Never before, powder became so powerfully poetic. For all the wishes that you trust. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Photo Me Painterly: Iain Crawford

Wuhhh... I haven't done this in a long time. So I'm gonna post not one but two in a row. Of photographers that used models as canvas in literal sense. Of photographers that are not only brilliant in capturing lights but also movements. Firstly, fashion photographer Iain Crawford.

Photo Me Painterly: Oleg Dou's Pop Surrealism

Once I have these strange beautiful dreams of milk-skinned creatures with large eyes and no eyebrows. They live in a land full of mushrooms. I woke up feverish and started to sketch. But still they soon become forgotten, like milk, the project had gone sour. One day I stumbled upon the works of Oleg Dou, and it made me feel giddy. Someone has brought the dream creatures to life. He even have this Virgin Mary-like persona in all white with a red red heart at the center, the only difference is my version has both of her hands lifted up protecting the heart (and no I won't show you the sketch,  it's ugly trust me).
As you could probably tell these photos are manipulated in a way. But still, awesomeness need not be constrained. As to why the Pop Surrealism, well, it sorta rings back to Mark Ryden's Blood series. Enjoy!

Photo Me Painterly: John Knight and the Pre Raphaelites

Dang! Lookin for a nice Old Master styled photographs is getting harder and harder. Well it is though, I am not just looking for excuses. Maybe I need to broaden my categories. Meanwhile I will give you John Knight's interpretation of paintings made by the romantic ( and scandalous)  Pre- Raphaelites. To be honest, I found these photos as a bit of a downer after Mocafico's and Kustra's but hey... I totally gave this guy mad-props for his total DIY-ness!

Work in progress: Goodness

Me and my sister decided to start an online shop called Goodness. Currently, we're still tidying things up, open new accounts, administrations, logo and concept  designing, and so on. I will have my handmade whatnots to sell at Goodness too and I've been doing my good enough (can't say best, since it's stupendously slooowwww) effort to get rid of my heap of the half-finishes and actually made some. We've been pretty busy these two weeks. I do hope we will be able to open it soon, very soon. In the meanwhile here are some photos that I took on Friday....

M is for Mocafico

Jawdropper Alert!
I won't say much, except that I think his parents made a bargain with the devil. Ladies and gentlemen, let's give a big round up applause to The Great, the Magnificent still-life photography of Guido Mocafico

M is for Macau

I am back! Still bleary-eyed and sore allover but hey how bout a travelpics' galore?
Macau is so much more than an Asian Las Vegas, the old city center is brimming with wonderful historics within walking distance. Macau is definitely NOT a morning city, it is recommendable to wake up early (8 AM is still early enough by the way) to enjoy Largo de Senado's  full grandeur.
